Joining and earning
- How do mechanics join the Rig network?
- New mechanics join every day; independent local mechanics in particular recommend Rig to other mechanics. You control your hours, keep more than you would working for a shop, and get a steady stream of job requests in your service area.
- Every mechanic goes through an onboarding process that verifies past work, credentials, and the job types and skills they want dispatched. Start at bigrig.app/shops.
- Does Rig take a cut or charge mechanics fees?
- No. The price you quote is the price you get: Rig does not take a percentage of your invoice and charges mechanics no subscription or membership fees. Rig makes its money on the customer side: a service fee on top of the mechanic’s price.
- How do mechanics get paid?
- Through Rig, after the job is completed and documented. Payouts land in the normal timeframe for the payment type (2–3 business days for credit cards, 5–7 for EFS), or instantly for a small fee, a big win for independent mechanics waiting on fleet-check settlements.
- Cash, Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, Square, and PayPal are not supported, and taking direct payment from the customer violates the terms and can get an account flagged.
- How do offers and pricing work for mechanics?
- Respond to a request with your callout or service fee and hourly minimum; the customer compares competing offers and picks. On site, you can adjust the invoice (“Change Offer”) for additional labor and parts, itemized and sent to the customer for approval.
- Offers win on price and ETA: customers see multiple options and usually choose on cost and speed.
Protection and account management
- What protects mechanics on disputes?
- Proof of service. Take photos when the job is done and stay on location until the balance is settled; with proper documentation, Rig handles the dispute and the payment doesn’t get reversed.
- Can a shop manage multiple mechanics on Rig?
- Yes. Shop accounts let a manager add mechanics, assign jobs, and see requests across locations. In the app: respond to a request, then Add Mechanic. On the web: Settings, then Add Users. Invited mechanics accept and install the app.
- How do mechanics control their service area and notifications?
- In the Rig Mechanic app: adjust your details, add shop info, and change settings for notifications, service area, and the work types you offer.
